How To Edit A Virtual Co-Host/Guest Episode

add the intro (& outro if applicable) to the main episode
- cut out any part in the beginning or end of the podcast recording that isn’t part of the episode
- Video examples:
throughout the episode cut out:
- any long pauses (e.g. more than 3-5 seconds), awkward bits, or other technical issues that may happen
- anything that interrupts the smooth flow of the episode
  - e.g. a joke that goes on for too long, a long pause when one of us is looking something up online, a long pause while switching to a new segment etc.
- IMPORTANT: No jump cuts. It must still feel like a natural conversation where you can’t tell a cut happened.

Switching video angles can also be used strategically to hide cuts if we were to cut out a piece

Either use a full-screen on one host or a split-screen between two/all hosts
- Full screen vs. split-screen:
General rules (can be broken depending on the situation):
- Split-screen makes sense at the beginning of the podcast so the viewer can see who is involved in the conversation, which hosts are present etc.
- Use full-screen on the person who is talking
  - you can switch to split-screen or full-screen of the other person who isn’t talking if they have a reaction, e.g. smiling, raising eyebrow, laughing, shaking head, cringing, reacting in any other way etc.
- Split-screen can make sense when one person poses a question to another and therefore the speaker is about to switch

When showing B-roll footage or screenshare footage, make sure it’s high-quality if possible
Show both or one speaker in a mini screen on the side or corner of the screen

mute swearing so you can tell what the word is but YouTube can’t detect it
- e.g. when saying “fuck” mute anything that comes after the “f” so the viewer knows the person said “fuck” without the whole word being said so YouTube can’t detect it. Our brains fill in the gaps.
